The placenta is an amazing organ, which isn't given enough credit IMHO. The trend of placenta encapsulation is growing, and for good reason. Many moms who have their placenta encapsulated report positive side effects. Now the idea of it did seem strange to me during my first pregnancy, I had the mindset of if it's coming out of me then it isn't going back in. A few months after birth I found myself wishing I had my placenta pills after all. I had a colicky baby, he never slept (still doesn't), I was feeling overwhelmed from the pressure of having to keep a perfect home since I wasn't working outside of the home, trying to keep myself maintained, pump breastmilk around the clock, and was still attending classes at night. My mood slowly started to deteriorate, my husband noticed it before I did. I researched ways to help me elevate my mood, because I fully acknowledged that postpartum depression and anxiety is a real thing and I was going to be proactive about it. While I was seeing stories of how the placenta did nothing for some women PP, I was seeing so many more stories of moms who had their placenta pills and how it helped them get through their issues, and I was starting to regret my decision. Then I became fascinated by this little organ that kept my child company while he was cooking. Things I learned about ingesting your placenta:
Increased release of the hormone oxytocin, which helps the uterus return to normal size and encourages bonding with the infant
Increase in CRH, a stress-reducing hormone
Decrease in post-partum depression levels
Restoration of iron levels in the blood
Increase in milk production
I was hooked after really researching this subject. I quickly learned how to encapsulate placentas. Each one is beautiful and different, just like the women they came from. If you would like more information on the placenta feel free to visit my website or message me. I hope you learn something as well.
